LISZT MEETS SCHUBERT

Franz Liszt, the leading pianist of his days invented the concept of the piano recital. Before him, nobody dared to have just a single pianist for an entire concert! Liszt composed over 800 pieces for solo Piano. Katia Michel also performs one of his famous of piano transcriptions - the Schubert Songs. The final piece, the Dante Sonata (work of program music) is based on Dante most famous epic poem, the Divine Comedy, what is considered the greatest literary work composed in the Italian language. (Dante, was a major Italian poet of the Middle Ages1265-1321) The poem describes Dante's travels from Hell to Heaven but at a deeper level it represents allegorically the soul's journey towards God.
